ABB robot maintenance should not be performed solely based on fixed calendar dates. Continuous high-speed operation, heavy load handling, welding dust, high temperatures, and frequent start-stop cycles can accelerate the aging of cables, fans, brakes, bearings, and lubrication components. Therefore, the maintenance plan should consider calendar time, operating hours, and on-site conditions simultaneously.
- Daily Checks
Record controller alarms, abnormal sounds, vibrations, temperature rise, oil leaks, and cable wear. Check for any obstructions around the robot and confirm that the emergency stop, safety gates, light curtains, and peripheral equipment interlocks are functioning normally.
- Monthly or Quarterly Checks
Clean the control cabinet filter screens and cooling channels. Check fan speed, grounding, power cables, feedback cables, and connectors. Inspect the robot body cable harness fixation points, bending radius, and protective sleeves. Verify the tightening status of tools, fixtures, and the base.
- Semi-Annual and Annual Checks
Based on the equipment manual and operating status, check reducer lubrication, grease color, brake holding capacity, axis mechanical clearance, and motor operating condition. Back up programs, system parameters, zero points, and I/O configurations, and verify that the backup files can be read.
- Adjustments for High-Load Equipment
For heavy-duty palletizing, die-casting, handling, and high-speed welding robots, the inspection interval should be shortened. If a specific axis is consistently under high load, closely monitor that axis's motor current, temperature, reducer clearance, and cable wear.
- Maintenance Records
Each maintenance session should record the date, operating hours, inspection data, alarms, components serviced, and verification results. Continuous records help determine if temperature rise, vibration, and clearance are gradually deteriorating.
A reasonable ABB robot maintenance plan can transform unexpected downtime into scheduled maintenance, but the maintenance cycle must be continuously adjusted based on actual operating conditions.
