What Determines Industrial Robot Repair Costs? Explanation of Fault Detection, Spare Parts, and On-site Services

Industrial robot repair costs are typically determined by the scope of fault detection, damaged components, source of spare parts, on-site labor hours, data recovery, and post-repair testing requirements.

What Determines Industrial Robot Repair Costs? Explanation of Fault Detection, Spare Parts, and On-site Services

When an industrial robot experiences downtime, a single alarm code alone is usually insufficient to accurately determine the repair cost. The same drive or feedback alarm could originate from cable connections, encoders, servo motors, drive modules, or mechanical loads. Therefore, quotations should be based on fault information and inspection results.

  1. Scope of Fault Detection

Remote preliminary diagnosis requires the robot brand, model, controller version, alarm history, occurrence posture, and on-site photos. If on-site troubleshooting is needed, it also involves checking the power supply, safety circuits, peripheral equipment, and production programs. The more complete the inspection scope, the better it can prevent incorrect part replacements.

  1. Spare Parts and Repair Methods

Costs are influenced by the choice of new parts, repaired parts, refurbished parts, and the method of repairing existing components. When selecting, verify the full model number, hardware version, compatible robot models, and test records. Do not compare based solely on part names and unit prices.

  1. Data and Commissioning Work

After replacing the main computer, axis computer, encoder, or motor, it may be necessary to restore system backups, zero points, tool coordinates, and I/O configurations. When disassembly and reassembly of the robot body is involved, trajectory and repeat positioning must also be rechecked.

  1. Acceptance and Downtime Costs

Quotations should clearly state whether they include low-speed, automatic, load-bearing, safety interlock, and continuous operation tests. For continuous production lines, the speed of fault localization, spare parts delivery time, and post-repair stability often impact the total cost more than the individual repair price.

Robot repair costs should be confirmed by breaking them down into inspection, parts, data recovery, on-site commissioning, and acceptance items. Avoid providing fixed prices based solely on alarm codes without proper justification.
