What Data Must Be Backed Up Before Industrial Robot Repair? Program, Parameter, and Zero Point Checklist

Before robot repair, programs, system parameters, zero points or revolution counters, tool/workpiece coordinates, safety configurations, and communication settings should be backed up based on operational risk.

What Data Must Be Backed Up Before Industrial Robot Repair? Program, Parameter, and Zero Point Checklist

Many repair operations themselves are not complex, but power outages, battery failure, or replacement of the mainboard or storage media can lead to the loss of programs and positional data. A complete backup is the foundation for repair rollback and restart verification.

  1. Key Checks
  2. Save user programs, job files, variables, macro programs, and production recipes.
  3. Save system parameters, machine data, axis parameters, load data, and calibration information.
  4. Record mechanical zero points, revolution counters, encoder status, and the current position of each axis.
  5. Export tool coordinates, workpiece coordinates, external axes, safety zones, I/O mapping, and network configurations.
  6. Implementation Steps
  7. Simultaneously retain a complete backup in the manufacturer's format and screenshots of key pages for convenient manual inspection.
  8. Name backup files according to equipment number, date, and pre/post-repair status, and save them in two locations.
  9. Randomly check if the backup package can be read, to avoid having files that exist but cannot be restored.
  10. After repair is complete, re-backup the final state, and record replaced parts, parameter changes, and verification results.
  11. Common Misconceptions
  12. Only copying robot programs, without saving zero points, safety, and communication configurations.
  13. Using the same filename for backups of all equipment, making it impossible to confirm the corresponding machine later.
  14. Overwriting the original backup after repair, losing the basis for comparison and rollback.
  15. Summary

Before robot repair, programs, system parameters, zero points or revolution counters, tool/workpiece coordinates, safety configurations, and communication settings should be backed up based on operational risk.
