How to Accept a Refurbished Robot Controller? Appearance, Version, Function, and Load Testing Checklist
Acceptance of a refurbished robot controller should involve checking model version, maintenance records, interface and insulation status, and completing startup, communication, I/O, drive, safety, and load testing.

Refurbished robot controllers can be used for restoring old equipment and as backup units, but a clean appearance does not prove full functionality. During acceptance, hardware, software, repair content, and test scope should be verified to ensure the controller can match the on-site robot and peripheral equipment.
- Model and Version Verification
Confirm the controller model, main computer, axis computer, drive module, power supply, and interface versions. Verify the applicable robot, software version, and options. When replacement parts are involved, record the original model and the replacement relationship.
- Appearance and Electrical Inspection
Inspect the cabinet, connectors, terminals, grounding, fans, filters, and wire harness securing. Confirm there is no burning, corrosion, temporary jumpers, or undocumented modifications, and complete necessary power supply and insulation checks.
- Functional Testing
Test cold start, teach pendant, internal communication, I/O, industrial network, drive enable, each axis feedback, and safety circuits. After restoring the on-site backup, verify programs, parameters, zero points, and tool data.
- Load and Continuous Operation
Connect the corresponding robot to complete low-speed, full-stroke, automatic, rated load, and continuous warm-up operation. Observe alarms, drive current, fans, and module temperatures. Test results should be saved as acceptance records.
Acceptance of a refurbished controller should start with component and version verification and end with full machine load and safety function validation, avoiding reliance solely on normal power-on display as the basis for delivery.
