Robotic Arm Repair and Preventive Maintenance Checklist: Accuracy, Cables, Lubrication, and Safety Inspections
Robotic arm maintenance should cover repeat positioning accuracy, joint clearance, body cables, lubrication, brakes, base, and safety functions, with cycles adjusted based on load and operating hours.

After operating under high-speed, heavy-load, and frequent reversing conditions, the accuracy, cables, lubrication, and braking components of a robotic arm gradually change. Preventive maintenance should use recordable inspection items, not just observing whether the equipment can continue to operate.
- Accuracy and Mechanical Condition
Use fixed reference points to check repeat positioning, observing whether deviations occur when approaching from different directions. Check joint clearance, abnormal sounds, vibration, temperature rise, base fastening, and tool flange condition.
- Body Cables and Connectors
Check cable harness sheaths, fixing clips, bending radius, and tension points. Encoder or motor alarms that only appear in certain postures typically require focused inspection of internal broken wires in moving cables.
- Lubrication and Seals
Use specified lubricants according to the robot model, axis position, and operating conditions. Check for oil leaks, grease discoloration, metal powder, and seal damage, and avoid mixing different greases.
- Motors and Brakes
Record the operating current, temperature, and brake release status of each axis. When a gravity axis slips after stopping, experiences startup shock, or releases slowly, check the brake power supply and mechanical wear.
- Safety Functions
Verify emergency stop, safety doors, enabling devices, soft limits, safety zones, and peripheral equipment interlocks. After maintenance, it is essential to confirm the safe clearance for tools, workpieces, and external axes throughout the entire trajectory.
Robotic arm preventive maintenance should generate inspection data and trend records. Upon detecting changes, schedule planned repairs to prevent accuracy degradation from eventually leading to sudden downtime.
